POSITION: SMI Peer Support Specialist

WORKSITE: Hospital discharge program (Perry and surrounding counties)

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Regular Full-Time

DEGREE: High School/GED, peer support certification or complete peer support training upon hire approved by Department of Behavioral Health.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Be a self identified person with history of mental illness, who has received treatment.  Must have lived experience: prior treatment and hospitalization for severe mental illness. Must have at least one year since last psychiatric hospitalization.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Use relevant personal stories to teach through experience.
2. Serve as a role model for clients.
3. Encourage client voice and choice during development and implementation of treatment planning.
4. Support clients while receiving mental health services.  Empower clients to be self-advocates.
5. Help clients enhance relationships with community partners.
